Window treatments are one of the final elements of a smart home that, when automated, dramatically elevate daily life. For this 8,500 square foot custom build with floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, District-AV designed and installed a 24-shade Lutron Palladiom motorized roller shade system that controls light, privacy, and solar heat gain across the entire home.
The homeowners selected three fabric types tailored to each room’s function: sheer solar screens in the main living areas to preserve views while reducing glare, room-darkening solar in the dining and office spaces, and full blackout rollers in all bedrooms. All shades are wireless and operate on Lutron’s battery-powered Palladiom platform — eliminating wall penetrations and making installation clean and non-invasive even in a finished home.
Every shade is tied into the home’s lighting scenes via Control4. When “Movie Night” is selected, the living room shades close, the lights dim to 15%, and the TV turns on — all from a single tap. A sunrise automation raises bedroom shades gradually each morning as a natural wake cue.
